Kyrie & Kerby

Kyrie

Kyrie (short for "Valkyrie") is our tri-color collie puppy.  We picked her up on September 3, 2006 at the age of 8 weeks.  She is the sweet and wonderful puppy!  She was virtually house-trained from the first day she came to us, with only a couple accidents in the house.  She even whimpers or whines at the door when she wants to go out.  In less than 2 weeks, she learned how to 'sit' for her food or treats, and sits from a hand signal.  Healthwise she is perfect - her eyes are perfect (no collie eye anomaly), her weight is good and bone structure is fine.  She was 12.5 pounds when we picked her up, and a week later she was 17 pounds! Her eventual weight should be around 60 lbs or so.  She loves to lick our hands, arms and face (especially ears!) and follows us around all day long -- in between many naps.  She also loves to roll on her back and get bellyrubs. As of January, 2007 she has been successfully spayed.

Kerby (short for Kerberos) is going to be our newest addition to the Kalafut collie family! Right now he's five weeks old, and we get to pick him up on May 14.  He's from Blue Diamond Collies in Ordaway, Colorado. His father's name is Traveler (a beautiful tri-color) and his mother's name is Joy (a blue merle). He's white-factored tri-color, which is why his front is white all the way down.

Kyrie's Family Tree

Kyrie's father is Riley, a 5-year old tri-color collie and her mother is Mollie, a 1.5 year old tri-color collie.

In an amazing coincidence, it turns out that our Kyrie and my parent's puppy Mackie are closely related cousins!  Even though we got our puppy in Colorado and they got Mackie in Wisconsin, they are descended from the Holmhaven collies from Florida. Hooray!

30 Years of Collies

My brother and parents have had collies since before I was born.  When I was born, my family had a tri-color collie girl ("Mandy") and a sable boy ("Chad").  Later, in high school my parents got a tri-color girl, Macy (1995-2006) and a tri-color boy, Monty (1995-).  In 2005, they got a new tri-color boy pup, Mackie (2005-).
