Wedding

Molly & Gerry

Gerry and I got married in Greece, just the two of us.  It was a wonderful and romantic trip!  Greece has a lot of meaning for us since we both share a love of philosophy and Greek mythology.

So our wedding incorporated a lot of pagan mythology.  At the Temple of Delphi we "consulted the Oracle" to see if there were any objections to our wedding - and surprise surprise, nothing happened. So we assumed it was okay. ;-) We exchanged our vows at the Temple of Zeus, signed our marriage license on the steps of the Parthenon. Then exchanged rings at the olive tree that symbolizes the founding of Athens.

That evening, we had a little party for ourselves (again, just the two of us) on the rooftop bar of our hotel.  We had wedding baklava, and sampled some regional drinks - ouzo, Metaxa and retsina.  Gerry liked the ouzo but I didn't really care for them. Still it was fun to try!

Engagement Day

On September 24th, 2003 we got engaged.  It was a perfect evening! We first went to the Oktoberfest in downtown, then to the performing arts center for a Colorado Symphony Concert.  It was one of my favorite pieces, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto #1 in B-Flat Minor.

Our marriage certificate and wedding rings (on our engagement hands).

Traditionally, before a Greek wedding the marriage announcements are made several weeks or months in advance.  First Gerry stood in the center and declared his love for me, than I took my turn in the center.

Signing the Marriage License

Colorado is one of just a handful of states where the wedding couple can officiate their own wedding papers (instead of witnesses and a judge).  So we just brought the certificate with us to Greece, and signed it.

(Undergoing restoration preparing for the 2003 Olympics)

The legend goes that Athena planted this olive tree at the founding of Athens. This is where we exchanged our rings.
