Forever Gold (1998) |
I was surprised to find out how songs I was familiar with by them, probably from radio listening.
Yeah, so what if it's cheesy pop - I like how happy it sounds. I got this album after liking their videos in the mid-1990s.
While waiting for a concert to start, this CD started playing. I was so entranced I hunted down the bartender to find out the band. My husband and I were fortunate to see them perform live in Denver at the Gothic Theater.
I'm not sure how I first heard of Alana Davis or how I got her first CD, but I really enjoy her music. I got to see her perform live when she opened for Jack Johnson at the Denver Paramount Theater.
I got hooked on her first album after seeing her video on MTV.

My ex-girlfriend's roommate got me addicted to her albums. I like her earlier work better than the more recent.
I really like her videos and got Medusa thinking it had some songs on it that I liked, but sadly it didn't have the ones I was looking for.
| Return of the Aquabats (1995) | Fury of the Aquabats (1997) | Aquabats Vs. The Floating Eye of Death (1999) | Myths, Legends & Other Amazing Adventures (2000) | Charge!!! (2005) |
My husband introduced me to these very quirky albums that get very stuck in my head. Who couldn't like an album called "Floating Eye of Death"?!
Nice jazz album with a lot of classics.
This is a punk album I started listening to from my husband's collection and found it rather catchy. It's got a lot of energy mixed with some nice mellow parts - though a bit too much screaming at times. After At The Drive-In, the singer and lead guitarist went on to The Mars Volta.

Check Your Head |
This is a really silly story. I've liked songs of them I've heard since my early teen years, but was embarrassed about it. When my husband caught me listening to one of their songs on the radio, I got flustered and embarrassed and he teased the living daylights out of me. For a year or two, every time Beastie Boys came on the radio, he'd go "It's music for my hip-hop honey!" and insist we listen to it while he teased me and I turned bright red. Several times I'd protest "Hey, I didn't even know that was a Beastie Boys song!" When I had a chance to get free CDs through the BMG club, I quietly asked a friend from IRC what Beastie Boys album he'd recommend, and he suggested a really good one. When the CD arrived I put it on the bottom of the pile, backwards, so my husband wouldn't see it and tease me. But alas, see it he did, and tease me he did. I listened to it in the mornings in my shower, and as it happens that particular CD starts out with a little spoken part. One morning, my husband was downstairs, heard the music start...and speaking along with the words! Busted! As it turns out, he owned every album by the group and had been having a grand old time teasing me! In retrospect, I should have realized how suspicious it was that he could recognize so many of their songs, but I was too busy being embarrassed. He still called me "Hip-hop honey" to tease me occasionally - and then I usually get exasperated and throw pillows at him. Check Your Head

Revolver |
In high school I loved the rhythmic beat to the music so I got the Mellow Gold album. The Weird Al polka using a bit from the "Loser" song is hilarious, too.
I liked the energy of the videos and heard bits of their songs all over the radio and tv. That "Let's Get It Started" song was played as background music in all kinds of tv shows, commercials, etc. I was utterly shocked to find out the real, uncensored words to the song is "Let's Get Retarded"! What on earth were they thinking?

I liked the song "Tangled Up In Blue" that I heard on the radio. I randomly picked up a few CDs, but then my friend Subetai stepped in and helped recommend some great albums. I really love Street Legal and Blood on the Tracks.
Their song on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack first got me interested in this group. I don't think I've listened to the CD all the way through yet, though.
I liked their song that got a lot of radio play. An IRC friend had this CD and didn't particularly care for it, so he sent it to me (very nice of him!).
My friend Jon got me addicted to this album. For a couple years I had the tape in my bathroom to listen to in the shower in the morning. It really helped wake me up and get me ready to face the day.
A previous employer introduced me to this happy, bubbly, silly album.
I haven't listened to this CD at all yet and don't even really know who she is.
